Best Acoustic guitar for beginners

by Dev Duff on December 18, 2009

I have been searching for the best acoustic guitar for beginners since a few days now and the reason I’m looking for beginner guitars is that I’m not a pro at playing guitar, yet. My friend has been playing guitar since a few years and as I visited his house last month, I felt like learning guitar. His music inspires me to learn playing guitar like a professional. And here I am searching for the acoustic guitars for beginners to begin my guitar lessons. As I searched through various reviews of beginner guitars, I found that it is best to begin learning with an Acoustic Guitar.

Why Acoustic Guitars

If you are wondering, why I chose to begin with Acoustic guitars, the answer is simple. Acoustic guitars are easier to handle, perhaps 6 strings are easy to learn. 12 strings may be too much for my hands at this moment when I don’t even know how to play the simplest songs. Also, I need to mention that I purchased the Learn and Master guitar learning course few weeks ago that has some very good information and reasons to begin with an Acoustic guitar and progress with better quality guitars as I move through the learning curve. One more good thing about Acoustic guitars is that they are cheap but they sound like a professional guitar.

Best Acoustic Guitars for Beginners

As I keep browsing through different guitars, I keep adding the good guitars to my list and I have selected guitars that are good in terms of quality and price. There has to be a fine balance between quality and price because you can’t afford to lose either of those two. If your guitar does not play the way you want it to or if it does not give that particular sound tone, it is useless to spend money. At the same time, your first guitar should not be too expensive. So here are those wonderful guitars that I have selected out of hundreds of other guitars. The idea is to stick with quality acoustic guitars that have excellent quality and also excellent value.

Yamaha FG700S Acoustic Guitar
Yamaha guitars are well known in the guitar world. Yamaha has been in the music and instruments business since a long time and they have fine-tuned their products over and again. Also, their guitars are the cheapest as compared to other guitars in this industry. The Yamaha FG700S features include a solid Sitka spruce top, die-cast tuners and a rosewood fingerboard. The heritage of Yamaha guitars begins with the FG line of acoustic guitars. The price of this guitar is just $200 and it is an affordable way to own a high-quality instrument. Also, the FG700S acoustic guitar is ideal for beginners.

Fender DG-8S Acoustic Guitar
Fender DG 8S acoustic guitar is another wonderful guitar at surprising low value. The guitar costs only $200, but the sound quality is exceptionally good. What surprises me is that the number of reviews this guitar has on the internet. Guitar lovers have written wonderful reviews about this guitar. Another reason for listing this guitar is that this guitar comes in a value pack that includes all that you may need to begin learning guitar. The value pack includes Fender’s best chromatic tuner, gig bag, shoulder strap, picks, strings, string winder, and instructional DVD.

Epiphone DR-100 Acoustic Guitar
Epiphone DR-100 is another wonderful guitar at a surprisingly low price. It just can’t get better because this guitar is available at just $100 but the quality of sound is amazingly good. Another good point to mention is that this guitar is available in 3 colors: Black, Natural and Sunburst. The body of this guitar is made of quality Mahogany wood which is long lasting and produces great sound. Epiphone is making more than just guitars, they have been making music. This is a perfect guitar and also a wonderful gift idea for music lovers

Takamine GS330S Acoustic Guitar
Takamine is also a known manufacturer of quality guitars. Their guitars vary from as low as $300 to as high as $3000 for high end guitars. Takamine GS330S is another wonderful guitar priced at around $300. The GS330S features genuine solid cedar top, rosewood fretboard, laminated nato back and sides, dreadnought body style and light satin finish. It is an incredibly affordable Takamine guitar with truly high-end tone. The quality of the sound is amazing when you play this guitar.

Alvarez AF410 Acoustic Guitar
As we move on with finding quality guitars, Alvarez AF410 can’t be left out of the list. An exceptionally wonderful guitar that stays ahead of all other acoustic guitars at a price below $330. Although compared to other guitars, the price of AF410 is on the upper side, the same goes for the quality. Where AF410 produces exceptionally good sound, the sleek design gives the look of a professional guitar. The body style of this guitar is Grand concert folk and the body is made of quality Mahogany wood which is well known in the guitar world.

Aria AD-28 Acoustic Guitar
Aria acoustic guitars are well known for their amazing quality. Aria manufactures mainly high end guitars and the Aria AD-28 is much loved acoustic guitar for beginners. It is a quality guitar and is available around $450 which is definitely a little expensive. However, if you are looking for quality, it just can’t get better than the AD-28 guitar. It gives amazing quality sound and also gives the looks of riches. The body is made of quality Mahogany wood and has Chrome hardware which adds to the beauty of this guitar.

That’s exactly what I was looking for. I have read many acoustic guitar reviews but most of them give information as if everyone understands those jargon. I’m a beginner and don’t understand a lot of technical terms they use. Some people have excellent knowledge of guitars but they suck at explaining it to newbies.

I think I like the FG700S Yamaha guitar a lot and I will buy that to begin with learning to play guitar. Thanks and really appreciate all the useful information you have provided.

Guitars for beginners

Good list. These guitars are nice and I have a list on my website that showcases the best ten acoustic guitars. I personally love the Fender acoustic guitars.

If you are just starting out you will not need a top of the range guitar but it is best to get the nicest one in your price range. A cheap, poorly made guitar will be an uphill battle to play. A good instrument will make your practice sessions something to look forward to.

Acoustic and electric guitars, effects and amps

If id started learning on an acoustic I think I wouldnt be playing now! The string gauge and height kills your fingers. I remember the skin hanging off the tips off my fingers after 10 minutes on an unamplified electric guitar. Ahh happy days.

Nicely written. Clearly, you have looked into your subject matter at length. Just one question: Have you ever heard of ‘Seagull’ guitars? Maybe take a look. One look is usually enough, but if it isn’t, one play WILL be. Take 12 bars’ rest, and treat yourself!
